As part of the 5th Nostalgic Air-Picnic, again a Classic Cessna Meeting will take place on 6th September 2025 in cooperation with the German section of the International Cessna 120-140 Association and the International Bird Dog Association.
We are looking forward to numerous visits from the beautiful Cessna taildragger models Airmaster, C120, C140, C170, C180, C185, C195 and C305 (L-19 / O-1). However, early variants of the C150, C172, C175, C182 and C210 are also welcome as rare types like the C337 (O-2) and the early C310. The most beautiful participating classic Cessna also receives an award this year.

Four Cessna anniversaries can be celebrated in this year:

  1. The Cessna 188 AGwagon had its debut 60 years ago on 19 February 1965.
  2. Now 70 years ago, the Cessna 172 Skyhawk (on 12 June 1955) and the Cessna 182 Skylane (on 10 September 1955) took off for their maiden flights.
  3. The Cessna 140 and also the Cessna 120 are already 80 years old. This series had its first launch on 28 June 1945 (C140) and on December 1945 (C120).
  4. It's almost unbelievable that the Cessna Airmaster has been around for 90 years! The maiden flight of C-34 Airmaster took place in June 1935 (according to other sources already on 19 August 1934).

We would like to honor these events at this year's Classic Cessna-Meeting and are therefore honoring the oldest participating Cessna Airmaster, C120/140, C172/182 and C188.

We also want to show the different types of Cessna in the air. If you are interested in demonstrating your plane, you should contact our organization team for air displays.

History

Participants of the first Classic Cessna-Meeting 2012
Participants of the first Classic Cessna-Meeting 2012
On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Wershofen gliding club, a Nostalgic Air-Picnic with Classic Cessna meeting was held in Wershofen for the first time in 2012. The meeting was well received from the start, and from the small C120 to the C170 to the large C195, the entire spectrum of the tail wheel Cessna was represented.
Of the 24 machines registered, 14 had found their way to Wershofen despite the bad weather in the south of Germany. With Andrea Rossetto's L-19 Bird Dog and the Classic Cessna-Corso with the Cessnas of Jürgen Fuchs, Herb Jösch and Thilo Kyritz, the numerous visitors were also able to admire some of the classic tailwheelers in the air.

Due to the great approval and the request of the participants to continue the event in this form, there was the second Nostalgic Air-Picnic in 2014, again with a Classic Cessna meeting. This time even 30 Cessnas of the different model series were registered.
Unfortunately, the weather conditions in large parts of Germany and Europe prevented the approach for some participants.
Nevertheless, around half of the registered machines found their way to Wershofen.

Also in 2016 Wershofen became the Cessna stronghold again, with 41 registered participants aircraft of all model series from Germany, the Netherlands, France, Austria, Italy, Great Britain and Spain. A formation of six (!) Cessna Bird Dogs was probably unique, there were a total of eight machines of this model in the Eifel. The 140s Cessnas formed an equally large group.
Unfortunately, the weather forecast for Sunday was so bad that a large number of the participants had to cancel their participation at short notice and others left on Saturday. Nevertheless, this time it was again a great get together of the classic Cessnas.

In 2018 the European Classic Cessna-Meeting was then a tradition and recorded 29 declarations of different Cessna models. Again, numerous exemplars found their way from all over Germany, Luxembourg and Switzerland to the Eifel.
The participants from Italy unfortunately had to capitulate to the Alps due to the weather. We were very pleased that a Cessna Airmaster from 1939 was there for the first time. This "original Cessna" made of wood is something very special!
